Three Reasons Your Vote Matters More Than You Think

Although we don’t endorse candidates at Americans of Conscience, we value democracy and equality for all people. For that reason, we encourage you to consider these three priorities as you vote.

Issue One: The Right to Vote

Protecting Our Voices at the Ballot Box

In the last four years, we’ve witnessed a worsening trend of voter suppression that blocks citizens from reaching the ballot box. Tactics like stricter voter ID requirements, voter roll purging, closing polling places, and restrictive mail-in ballot laws are being used to undermine the voices of specific communities while concentrating the power of others. These actions threaten the very integrity of our electoral process.

As you evaluate candidates this November, prioritize those who advocate for comprehensive voting rights legislation and hold accountable any state that violates these laws.

  • Do your candidates actively oppose voter suppression efforts?
  • Do they champion policies aimed at expanding access to the ballot box, particularly for underrepresented populations?

Democracy thrives on participation. Choosing leaders committed to safeguarding the right to vote is essential for the health of our democracy. Without robust voting rights, our liberties are at risk.

Issue Two: Sexual and Reproductive Health

Americans’ Basic Rights Under Threat

Since 2022, Americans’ access to reproductive care is rapidly deteriorating in the wake of the Dobbs ruling. This shift has not only undermined the autonomy of women, but also impacts trans and nonbinary people, as increasingly invasive policies infringe on privacy and personal health choices. The current political climate fosters a culture of surveillance and control over our bodies.

As you consider candidates for all levels of government, seek out those who who are staunch advocates for reproductive rights and healthcare access for everyone.

  • Have your candidates supported legislation that protects access to contraception and abortion?
  • Have they publicly opposed measures that undermine personal choice?

The stakes for Americans are high. The rollback of reproductive rights is already having dire consequences for gender equality, safety, health, and personal freedom. Voting for candidates who champion these rights restores vital autonomy to make decisions about our own bodies.

Issue Three: Humane Immigration Policy

Welcoming Aspiring Americans

It is a constitutional right to apply for asylum. Both major parties have endorsed harsh deportation tactics that jeopardize the lives of people fleeing violence and persecution. U.S. detention facilities are inhumane, and the threat of separating children from their parents is at risk of returning. Rising anti-immigrant sentiment harms our neighbors and further polarizes our society.

When evaluating candidates, we urge you to prioritize those who recognize the inherent value of aspiring Americans and welcoming them into our communities.

  • Do your candidates advocate for the rights of asylum seekers?
  • Are they committed to humane immigration reform and dismantling unjust detention practices?

U.S. immigration policy stands at a critical juncture. Choosing leaders who perpetuate current harsh immigration policies will result in continued and shameful treatment of immigrating families, funded by our tax dollars. Data shows that immigrants add vitality to our communities as well as strengthen economies. Let your vote advocate for compassion, justice, and a spirit of welcome so that we may live up to Lady Liberty’s bright promise.

Uphold democracy and freedom through your ballot

The Americans of Conscience team believes these three issues are fundamental to the health and future of our democracy and the wellbeing of our nation’s residents.

As you prepare to vote, we encourage you to support candidates who reflect the values of equity, freedom, and compassion. Your vote has the power to create a future where every voice is valued.
