Supporters of the work
Twice a month, the AoCC team turns overwhelming news into a checklist of 6-12 pro-democracy, nonpartisan actions. We’re always on the lookout for national policy & grassroots groups leading the way toward equality for all people, 100% access to the ballot box, and decency toward immigrating families.
Along with echoing these groups’ their calls to action, we add clear scrips to make phone calls less awkward and good democracy news to lift our spirits.
We’ve been doing this since 2016 because we know that stressed-out Americans care, but often don’t know how to help. In short, the AoC Checklist helps us all speak up for the nation we know is possible.
Thanking our unsung heroes
During November’s 30 Days of Gratitude, I would be remiss if I did not express my deep gratitude to a special group of people: our patron angels and donors.
When the Checklist went viral in January 2017, I effectively shut down my writing company in order to focus on the Checklist full-time. Thank goodness for our very first volunteer, Jennifer Brunton, who has been offering her professional editing skills since the third edition. But just as I realized the Checklist could not exist as a one- or two- person endeavor, neither could it exist without financial support from people besides myself.
Enter the angels
As a recovering perfectionist, asking for help has never been never easy for me. But as the Checklist grew, people kept asking me how they could contribute. So I set up a PO box and a Patreon account. Many tears were shed as that box filled with letters of encouragement and people signed up as Angel patrons. We became a far-flung team of many in those early days, and it helped me persevere and the work to grow.
We couldn’t do it without you
Our donors sustain the Checklist and keep it viable. We can afford to pay for all the technical tools associated with running a movement online — from website maintenance and security to journalism subscriptions and, yes, a Zoom account for team meetings. Our patrons support my time along with several amazing, badass professionals like Marissa, Wendy, and Marcia who bring their professional-level skills to Checklist operations.
We also regularly make contributions to the organizations we amplify in the Checklist, which brings the generosity full circle.
Our operations run lean, so every dollar has made a difference. If you’ve supported us financially, I want you to know how grateful I am. Thank you for believing in this work, for believing in those of us who create the Checklist, and for supporting our efforts. You make it possible for us to create a kinder, flourishing nation, one action at a time.
Looking forward to 2021!
Warmly,
Jen Hofmann, AoCC founder
Note: We have big plans for 2021, including website improvements to make taking actions easier. If you’re interested in becoming a patron or donor, you’ll find info and options here.
