Reproductive rights in the U.S. are eroding

In the nearly three years since SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, many states have passed strict abortion bans or created major barriers to essential care. The impact has been devastating: nearly 1 in 5 people now travel out of state for an abortion, up from 1 in 10 just a few years ago. That means thousands of people each year are facing dangerous delays just to get basic health care. This isn’t a future problem, it’s happening right now—to real people in crisis.

A different approach

Normally, our checklist covers a wide range of issues—from immigration and voting rights to gender equity—because we believe all forms of justice are deeply connected. However, thanks to your input, we’re offering something different: a single-focus special edition dedicated entirely to reproductive justice. Why? Because when basic rights eroding at this scale, change happens with focus.

Focused action

This special edition checklist gives you a unique chance to mobilize in a deeper, more meaningful way—with all our subscribers. For example, one action in this edition includes a fundraiser to support people who’ve been arrested simply for trying to access care—a stark reminder of the risks of accessing abortion pose in some states. This edition is designed to help you take bold, informed steps to protect reproductive justice now and in the future.

Bolder options

Some of the actions in this checklist go beyond what we’ve typically included in the past. You’ll find ways to support people directly, like donating to abortion funds, reviewing fake clinics online, or becoming a clinic escort. Change often happens first at the local level. These actions let us show up in real, meaningful ways for our neighbors—and offer a chance to try new skills as advocates.

Holding federal leaders accountable

We’re also keeping the spotlight on what’s happening at the federal level. While many attacks on abortion access are happening in states, our elected officials have a responsibility to advocate for their constituents needs. For example, the Hyde Amendment still blocks federal funding for most abortion care. Some members of Congress are pushing bills based on misinformation and aim to restrict care even further. Calling and writing your elected officials matters. They need to hear from us if we want to defend and restore our rights.

Together, we can reclaim our rights

These times call for courage, compassion, and collective action. Whether you’re just getting started or ready to take your advocacy further, this checklist is here to guide you. Thanks to Samantha W. who coordinated this special edition, and to our volunteers who researched, wrote, and edited it: Julie M., Julia R., Bethany M., Gina D., Julie D., Zoe M., Liv H., and Marissa B. Together, we’re working to support people who need care now—and bring back the right to abortion for everyone in America.

Let’s do this!
