This Week’s Actions

Action 1: Urge your senators to support legislation restoring TPS for Haiti.

Time to complete: Less than 3-6 minutes

Thank you to the 130 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], urging you to co-sponsor S. 4814 to restore TPS for Haiti. Haitian honor student Pierre Damas Bel would still be alive if his TPS had not been terminated. Hundreds of people have already been deported to Haiti since losing their TPS protection. Many fear violence. More than 3,000 people were killed in Haiti during the first six months of 2026. Please lend your full support to S. 4814.

Action 2: Celebrate National Voter Registration Day September 15.

Time to complete: Less than 10 minutes

Thank you to the 98 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Tuesday, September 15, 2026 is National Voter Registration Day! Celebrate by:

  1. Registering to vote if you haven’t already and updating your registration if you’ve moved this year.
  2. Checking your voter registration to make sure you haven’t been purged from voter rolls.
  3. Making a plan to vote by mail or in person, whether early or on Election Day.
  4. Asking three friends to register to vote and texting them this link: https://www.voterparticipation.org/my-voter-info—because studies show that people are more likely to vote if they are encouraged by someone they know.
  5. Sharing a link to National Voter Registration Day on social media.

Action 3: Resist the administration’s attempts to remove the “Roadless Rule.”

Time to complete: Less than 20 minutes

Thank you to the 168 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Despite broad public opposition to its plan, the administration is moving forward with plans to roll back the 2001 “Roadless Rule,” which was designed to protect forests and watersheds from logging and roadbuilding. Rescinding it could put nearly 1,800 miles of protected rivers and streams at risk, fueling wildfires and potentially exposing 25 million Americans to polluted drinking water. The NRDC calls upon us to defend our forests and protect vital public lands like California’s Tahoe National Forest and the Appalachian Trail.

Sign: Using your own words, add your statement in opposition to the proposed removal of the “Roadless Rule” on the Forest Service’s public comment page.

Bonus: Sign the NRDC’s petition.

Deadline: September 21, 2026

Action 4: Protect legal services for unaccompanied children.

Time to complete: Less than 3 minutes

Thank you to the 104 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], urging you to protect legal services for vulnerable children. For nearly two decades, unaccompanied children were represented by a network of experienced legal service providers. But as of July 31, 2026, the administration ended the network’s contract. More than 24,000 children now risk losing their trusted attorneys. Taking away legal services puts children’s safety, rights, and futures at risk. Please conduct oversight of HHS to ensure children’s due process rights are protected.

Bonus: Send additional letters to Congress through Acacia Center for Justice’s letter-writing campaign.

Action 5: Advocate for heat protection rules for farm workers.

Time to complete: Less than 5 minutes

Thank you to the 88 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], expressing my solidarity with farm workers who continue to face potentially deadly working conditions. Up to 2,000 U.S. workers die from heat stress every year. Strong, enforceable standards save lives. In 2024, OSHA proposed the nation’s first heat safety standard. But now the administration is pushing the ironically misnamed Heat Workforce Standards Act (H.R. 6213). Please reject this dangerous bill that would prohibit OSHA from creating or enforcing any national heat safety regulations.

Bonus: Use the interactive map to find out what heat protections exist in your state and, if there are no existing heat standards in place, contact your two state legislators (look up) to advocate for enforceable standards.

Action 6: Keep ICE away from polling places.

Time to complete: Less than 10 minutes

Thank you to the 46 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

If you live in DC, IL, MA, MI, NJ, NY, OH, PA, or WI, your state legislature is in session. Contact your two state legislators (look up).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], calling to ask you to pass legislation banning federal agents (including ICE) from polling places. It is already clearly illegal to deploy federal agents at voting sites, but creating state laws that mirror existing federal laws will allow [STATE] to hold federal agents accountable for criminal acts, even if the Department of Justice refuses to prosecute them.

If you live elsewhere: Donate to Election Protection to fund the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline to report voter intimidation and answer voter questions.

Bonus: Sign the Black Voters Matter Fund petition to tell Congress to keep ICE away from polling places.

Action 7: Demand that DHS disburse election security funds to states.

Time to complete: Less than 20 minutes

Thank you to the 32 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Write to:

Secretary Markwayne Mullin
Department of Homeland Security
2707 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE
Washington, DC 20528

Nick Anderson, Acting Director
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
1110 N. Glebe Rd.
Arlington, VA 20598-0630
central@cisa.dhs.gov

Script: In April 2026, Congress allotted $39.6 million on a bipartisan basis to help states prepare for midterm elections, but you have not released this money. I ask you to disburse these funds immediately as required by law.

Action 8: Demand protection for Rohingya people in danger.

Time to complete: Less than 5 minutes

Thank you to the 49 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], asking you to demand that the administration include the Rohingya among those admitted to the U.S. as refugees. In August 2017, the Burmese military committed genocide against the Rohingya people and forced more than 900,000 to flee to Bangladesh. Nearly one million now live in overcrowded camps, and families face food shortages and unsafe living conditions. Funding cuts worsen the crisis. Please urge the administration to grant refugee status to Rohingya people.

Action 9: Practice essential democracy skills.

Thank you to the 7 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Polarization makes it easier for authoritarian leaders to divide us and harder for our democracy to function. We don’t need to agree with the “other side,” but open conversations help all of us build mutual understanding. Some Americans are withdrawing their support from the current administration and its harmful policies, and we can play a role in that shift. Our democracy has a better chance when we practice civil debate, active listening, and mutual respect. With better skills we can reunite our nation, one conversation at a time.

Will you practice better democracy? Participate in groups like Braver Angels, Crossing Party Lines, and Make America Dinner Again.
