This Week’s Actions

Action 1: Urge in-person congressional oversight of local ICE facilities.

Thank you to the 265 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, my name is _____ and I’m contacting you from [ZIP] to encourage you to visit ICE detention centers in our district. Most of these facilities face reports of abuse, poor conditions, and restricted access to the outside world. As one of the few people legally allowed to visit detention centers without any formal notice, I’m calling on [Sen./Rep. NAME] to provide oversight into your district’s facilities and check on inside conditions.

Bonus: Learn what ICE detention facilities are in your area.

Action 2: Limit executive power to impose discriminatory travel bans.

Thank you to the 240 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (write, call, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m contacting you from [ZIP] to oppose President Trump’s discriminatory travel ban, which will divide families and vilify communities seeking safety and opportunity in the U.S. The NO BAN Act (S. 398 / H.R. 924) would limit executive authority to impose such bans and require greater transparency and accountability. I’m asking [Sen./Rep. NAME] to pass this essential legislation now to protect our core values and ensure that America remains a place of welcome and justice for all.

Alternative: Use the Stop AAPI Hate form to contact your members of Congress (uncheck the box to receive email updates).

Action 3: Oppose the cruel and wasteful budget bill.

Thank you to the 264 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, my name is _____ and I’m reaching out from [ZIP] in opposition to the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (H.R.1) which contains the following provisions that are harmful to our nation:

I’m urging Sen. [NAME] to reject this dangerous bill in favor of policies that protect and enrich our communities, economy, and government.

Action 4: Demand justice for an unlawfully deported LGBTQ+ community member.

Thank you to the 149 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, my name is _____ and I’m reaching out from [ZIP] about the unlawful disappearances of U.S. residents to El Salvador’s horrific CECOT mega-prison, including LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum like Andry José Hernández Romero, who fled persecution in Venezuela. These removals without due process violate U.S. obligations under our Constitution and the Refugee Convention. I’m calling on [Sen./Rep. NAME] to demand the immediate and dignified return of Andry and everyone the U.S. has sent to CECOT. Thank you.

Alternate: Contact your members of Congress directly using the NILC form (uncheck “I’d like to subscribe to NILC’s email list”).

Action 5: Provide legal and interpreter services to detained aspiring Americans.

Thank you to the 36 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

As policies change and legal representation for aspiring Americans is stripped away, the need for funding for travel and language access is growing. You can help send lawyers to remote detention centers and provide more interpreters so people who are detained don’t have to wait as long for their trials.

Donate: To the Immigration Justice Campaign Access Fund.

Action 6: Show the administration that there is no king of America.

Thank you to the 187 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

On June 14, America celebrates Flag Day. In 2025, this day of national pride is also a national day of action protesting the administration’s unconstitutional overreaches. There are many ways to protest that don’t involve marching in the streets, including amplifying the #NoKings message on social media, displaying a light (LED or candle) in your window nightly to show solidarity, and sharing factual information on the rights of protesters and the rights of anyone approached by immigration enforcement.

Action 7: Preserve funding for NPR and PBS.

Thank you to the 221 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hi, my name is _____ and I’m a constituent in [ZIP] asking you to vote NO on the rescission package that would strip $1.1 billion in already congressionally approved funding from NPR and PBS. Public media keeps our communities safe, informed, and supported—powering emergency alerts, local information, and free educational resources that help children thrive. Rescinding funding would force local stations to cut essential services or go off-air entirely. Please vote against rescinding public media funding. Thank you.

Alternate: Use Protect My Public Media to call or email your members of Congress directly (uncheck the box to unsubscribe from messaging about this campaign).

Action 8: Condemn the deployment of the military against peaceful protesters.

Thank you to the 35 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Pete Hegseth
Secretary of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301-1000

Script: I’m writing from [STATE] because deploying the National Guard against overwhelmingly peaceful protesters in defiance of the requests of state officials is unjustified and legally questionable. In particular, specifying that troops may be deployed preemptively anywhere in the country where protests are likely to occur is the opposite of deployment as a last resort. I call on you to end this abuse of power and recall the National Guard from Los Angeles.

Bonus: Because the Secretary of Defense will almost certainly ignore individual requests, it’s important to tap into the power of public opinion, emphasizing the fact that the administration’s actions are illegitimate. Share your message on social media, write a letter to the editor of your local paper, or submit an op-ed to a news organization.

Action 9: Support academic freedom in Ohio’s higher education system.

Thank you to the 12 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Ohio’s Senate Bill 1, a recently passed education overhaul bill that bans DEI practices on campuses, will radically alter how Ohio’s public colleges and universities are allowed to operate, organize, and teach, and would cost the state tuition and tourism dollars and countless jobs.

If you live in OH: Sign the petition for a statewide referendum to stop the bill’s enactment until Ohioans vote in November’s general election, or volunteer to gather signatures.

If you live outside OH: Help raise funds for petition printing and other campaign costs.
