The AoC Checklist features clear, well-researched actions for Americans who value democracy, equality, voting, and decency. We are a big tent for all people who want a kinder, flourishing nation.
This Week’s Actions
Action 1: Protect the right of women to vote.
Thank you to the 736 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
Contact: Your one House representative: (call, write, or email)
Script: Hi, my name is—in [ZIP], asking you to oppose H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, which would enact broad purges of voter rolls and force voters to prove their citizenship when registering. Almost 10 percent of Americans lack the required documentation, including many women who changed their names when they married. This law could have a chilling effect on women voters. Please assure me of your “no” vote on H.R. 22. Thank you.

Action 2: Challenge presidential overreach.
Thank you to the 592 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
Contact: Your one House representative and your two senators: (call, postcard, or email)
Script: I’m [NAME] from [ZIP], calling/writing in solidarity with the League of Women Voters’ February 14th letter urging Congress to check the president’s executive orders seizing congressional power. Sen/Rep [NAME] must use their authority to protect the rule of law, defend the Constitution, and restore critical checks and balances. So far, his orders have led to firing thousands of nonpartisan civil servants without due process, attempted to end birthright citizenship, has given unprecedented power to the non-elected Elon Musk and “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). Please respond with your plans to address this constitutional crisis.

Action 3: Oppose discrimination and violence in the 2025 budget.
Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (postcard, call, or email). Contact them whether you believe they agree or not. Pressure is crucial.
Script: Hello, my name is—from [ZIP]. I am asking Sen/Rep [NAME] to oppose two parts of the proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget. First, I oppose the extreme cuts to Medicaid and other essential services that would raise costs of health care, food, and college, deprive millions of Americans of health coverage, and endanger people experiencing homelessness. Secondly, I do not support the hundreds of billions of dollars allotted to militarized immigration enforcement, increased deportations, and mass incarceration of families and individuals. I’m calling on Sen/Rep [NAME] to vote NO to funding dangerous immigration practices and cutting to safety-net programs. Thank you.
Thank you to the 437 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at 202-224-6542, contact form, or postcard to 332 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, DC 20510.

Action 3B: Contact House leadership with the script above.

Action 4: Support families fleeing danger and persecution.
Thank you to the 77 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
Every day, families arrive in the U.S. fleeing danger, exercising their constitutional right to seek safety and a fresh start. USCRI provides them with critical support—housing, legal aid, and job assistance—to help rebuild their lives. But a recent unconstitutional federal funding freeze has left essential funds in limbo. To fill the funding gap, an anonymous donor is matching all donations up to $1.9M.
Donate: To support asylum seekers fleeing persecution, give to USCRI.
Action 5: Show some love to federal workers.
Thank you to the 78 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
More than 2.2 million federal civil servants live and work in every state across the nation. Thousands of these nonpartisan employees have been illegally fired, and all have been threatened by the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE).
Take action:Express your gratitude to the federal workers in your life, ask how you can support them, and offer to share resources like: What Federal Workers Can Do to Protect Themselves, Democracy Protection Network, Civil Service Strong, and the American Federation of Government Employees labor union.

Script: Please uphold your ethical and legal duties by immediately and publicly affirming your commitment to provide vital treatment to transgender youth. Every major medical organization supports the provision of age-appropriate, gender-affirming care, and studies show that such treatment leads to lower rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide and increases well being among transgender youth. Please rescind your decision to comply with the administration’s executive order limiting care in order to uphold the values and norms of your profession and New York’s anti-discrimination laws.

Contact: Both of your state legislators: (contact look up)
If you live in AZ, HI, ID, IL, IA, MS, MO, NJ, OK, OR, SC, TX, or WA, your state has introduced legislation that enables or expands automatic voter registration.
Look up your state’s bill to find the legislation number.
Script: Hi, I’m [NAME] from [ZIP], expressing support for automatically registering voters when they visit the DMV or use other state government services. Please vote “yes” on [BILL NUMBER]. Thank you.
If you live elsewhere: Donate to the Voting Rights Lab.

Action 9: Protect freedom of the press.
Thank you to the 50 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
The White House seizure of unilateral control of the press pool covering the president has earned criticism by media outlets including Fox News and New York Times. The administration stripped the nonpartisan White House Correspondents Association of its authority over the press pool. This was in retaliation for criticizing the White House banning the Associated Press from the press pool when it refused to use the administration’s proposed name for the Gulf of Mexico.
Donate: Reporters need legal aid to protect their First Amendment rights, give to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

Action 10: Defend the rights of an incarcerated transgender woman.
Thank you to the 33 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
Transgender woman Maria Moe (pseudonym) is legally challenging a Bureau of Prisons policy directed by President Trump which threatens to move her to a men’s facility and withdraw necessary medical care, putting her in danger and violating her constitutional rights. Moe transitioned well before her arrest, has been housed in women’s facilities, and has taken essential medication to treat gender dysphoria since she was a teenager. Support Maria Moe’s legal defense and the rights of all transgender incarcerated people.
Donate: Donations to GLAD Law help offset legal fees incurred in representing Maria Moe to protect her safety and rights and establish important legal precedence.

Thank you to the 189 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!
Contact: President Trump at 202-456-1111 (Tu-Th, 11:00am – 3:00pm) or via the White House contact form.
Script: Hello, I’m [NAME] reaching out from [STATE] in strong opposition to the recently announced Registry for Migrants. Requiring people to register with the government based on certain status under threat of criminal prosecution is exactly how the Nazi government began their extermination of millions of people. We the People refuse to allow it here. Drop this despicable plan immediately.

These orders impact over one million community members, friends, and workers, rescinding their work permits and putting them at risk of deportation to violent, corrupt countries. I’m calling on [NAME] to do everything in their power to reinstate TPS for individuals from Haiti and Venezuela.
