This Week’s Actions

Action 1: Defend women’s right to vote.

Thank you to the 476 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

This discriminatory, anti-voting bill has already passed in the House. Call your Senators today to oppose it loudly.

Contact: Your two senators (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], asking you to oppose the SAVE America Act (H.R. 7296), which passed the House on Feb. 11. This bill would prevent millions of married women who have changed their names from registering and voting. Not to mention the roughly 170 million Americans without a passport and the 9% of the population that moved in the last year. It would not SAVE America, but instead enact recurring purges of voter rolls, end mail voting nationwide, and force voters to prove their citizenship when registering and show photo ID when voting. I am asking you to block this bill using procedural tools like the filibuster and to vote “NO” if this harmful voter suppression bill comes up for a vote. Thank you.

Action 2: Demand that Congress end DHS actions harming children.

Thank you to the 298 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], expressing my anger about DHS actions that harm children. Among many examples, DHS agents tackled Minnesota students on school grounds and detained a family in Oregon outside of a health center where they sought medical treatment for their sick seven-year-old. To keep children safe, I urge you to immediately ban DHS operations near sensitive areas like schools and health centers, prevent traumatic family separations, and ultimately abolish ICE.

Action 3: Demand that Congress hold ICE accountable.

Thank you to the 367 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

From detaining people without due process to disappearing people off the streets, ICE is spreading fear and chaos in our communities. ICE is racially profiling and targeting anyone who looks or sounds “like an immigrant.” They are making arrests using brutal force and trampling legal rights. As public awareness of ICE’s abuses grows, support for abolishing ICE is surging across party lines. Demand that Congress conduct rigorous oversight of ICE and take immediate steps to curb its abuse.

Action 4: Learn how to oppose ICE detention centers in your community.

Thank you to the 50 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Countless confirmed cases document a pattern of abuse and inhumane conditions in existing ICE detention centers. Several people have died due to abuse or neglect in these centers in the past few months. Yet the administration plans to expand with as many as 23 new warehouse sites. Americans are protesting and taking action to block ICE from operating prisons in their communities, and protests are working. As public opposition intensifies, some of these deals are collapsing. Join efforts to resist ICE expansion in your community. Attend a Detention Watch Network webinar on resisting ICE expansion.

Action 5: Support on-the-ground efforts in Minnesota and connect with local organizations resisting ICE.

Thank you to the 89 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Though the administration stated it would reduce and then withdraw ICE agents in Minnesota, many Minnesotans report no signs of a reduction and aggressive tactics continue. ICE agents continue to stalk elementary schools, making school attendance impossible for many children. Minnesotans are demonstrating incredible courage and ingenuity in the face of violence, brutal detentions, and countless violations of their Constitutional rights. Democracy Forward has put together a list of resources in support of those enduring the brutal ICE crackdown in Minnesota.

Action 6: Protect voters’ private information in your state.

Thank you to the 119 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

The Department of Justice has demanded full voter rolls from 44 states and DC, including driver’s license numbers and social security numbers. This demand has no basis in federal law and violates many state laws. Most states have refused to comply or have provided only the publicly available versions of their voter files. The DOJ has sued 24 of these jurisdictions in response. The 10 states that turned over the full voter lists have agreed to remove voters from the lists at the federal government’s request within 45 days, which violates the National Voter Registration Act.

Option 1:

If you live in AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IA, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, MT, NV, NH, NM, NY, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, UT, VT, VA, WA, or WI, your state has refused to turn over full voter rolls to the DOJ.

Look up: Your state elections official (at this link).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], calling to thank you for not turning over full voter rolls to the Department of Justice, and to urge you to remain steadfast in resisting this unprecedented federal overreach.

Option 2:

If you live in AK, AR, IN, KS, LA, MS, NE, SD, TN, TX, or WY, your state has complied with the DOJ and released its voter rolls.

Look up: Your state elections official (at this link).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], calling to object to our state violating the National Voter Registration Act by sending voters’ private information to the DOJ and planning to purge voter rolls. This is a dangerous and undemocratic action, which flagrantly breaks state and federal privacy laws. Please refuse further cooperation.

Action 7: Support survivors and hold the Commerce Secretary accountable for deception.

Thank you to the 142 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Some lawmakers are working overtime to excuse fellow Republicans’ connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Contact: Your two senators and your one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: I’m calling to express my concern about evidence that revealed Commerce Secretary Lutnick misrepresented to Congress the nature of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. I urge you to join the bipartisan calls for Lutnick’s resignation. I would also like you to support Virginia’s Law, new legislation that allows survivors of sexual abuse to file civil claims without a limiting time frame.

Action 8: Keep ICE away from polling places.

Thank you to the 151 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and your one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], calling to remind you that it is a crime at both the federal and state levels to deploy military troops or federal agents, including ICE/CBP and the National Guard, to polling places. I urge you to publicly oppose any such proposals by the executive branch. A majority of Americans now suspect that the president will attempt to use ICE to interfere with elections, and you have a responsibility as an elected official to stop corruption and uphold election law.

Action 9: Urge Senators to vote against Anna St. John for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Thank you to the 109 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators (call, write, or email).

Script: Hi, I’m ____ from [ZIP] asking [Sen./Rep. NAME] to vote against Anna St. John for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana because she has a long record of undermining the rights of survivors of sexual assault, people of color, workers, consumers, and LGBTQ+ people.

Action 10: Join the call for no more secret police.

Thank you to the 159 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

ICE agents and other federal officers are operating as if they’re above the law. They wear masks to conceal their identities and violate civil rights—using aggressive tactics, entering homes without judicial warrants, and prowling outside of schools. Their secrecy and tactics spread fear and undermine safety. Further, morale among immigration officers is tanking; even those carrying out these injustices have moral concerns.

Action 11: Call for the permanent closure of the Dilley Detention Center in Texas.

Thank you to the 108 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Contact: Your two senators and one House representative (call, write, or email).

Script: Hello, I’m ______ from [ZIP], expressing my shock concerning conditions at the Dilley Detention Center in Texas. At least two cases of measles have been reported at this facility. Experts agree that a crowded facility housing small children poses a significant health risk. And families report contaminated food and lack of basic medical care. This facility was supposed to be shut down last year, I urge you to insist on its immediate closure without building additional centers.

Action 12: Support Minnesota activists by making a “Melt the ICE” hat!

Thank you to the 39 Americans of Conscience who completed this action!

Inspired by a symbol of resistance against Nazi occupation in Norway during WWII, many knitters are crafting red “Melt the Ice” hats, to protest immigration enforcement in the U.S. This “craftivism” has already raised over $650,000. To join in, buy the pattern from Needle & Skein to support immigrant communities in Minnesota.
